In Destiny 2’s Season of the Witch, we were given a brand new seasonal fusion rifle we could craft, The Eremite, a solar, high-impact monster that could be shaped with Envious Assassin, newly buffed, and new fusion perk Controlled Burst.
Well, forget that, it’s old news. Now we have a new best in slot fusion just one season later, probably the single best addition in all of Season of the Wish. That would be Scatter Signal.
Scatter Signal is a new Riven-granted weapon, part of the six we get per season, and as such, it can be crafted. It’s a Strand, Rapid-Fire Fusion Rifle, and it can be crafted with one really, really excellent DPS perk combo, and one situational, but also really good alternative.
The god roll combo for Scatter Signal is Overflow/Controlled Burst. Overflow may not be quite as good as Envious Assassin as it’s a bit more conditional, but it can definitely stack up extra rounds in your fusion quite easily as you pick up special and heavy ammo, which you will frequently.
Controlled Burst is the new, must-have perk that was introduced last season, where landing all bolts in a blast will increase damage and reduce charge time for a duration. That effect is amplified on a rapid-fire fusion which makes slamming bosses with it for DPS phases even better than The Eremite in most situations, which is why you’re seeing it used everywhere.
The alternative, interesting combo is Slice/Controlled Burst. Slice is a new perk as of this season that allows you to sever targets if you shoot them after using your class ability. Probably the best on Hunters with their low dodge cooldown, but Sever is a 40% damage reduction on a target, and this perk allows it to be applied even when you’re not running the Strand subclass. Slapping that on a boss or champion is a huge boon to your survivability, and I know a lot of solo flawless attempters are using this in order to play it safe for certain encounters.
This season also has the added benefit of the artifact perk Unravelling Orbs, where any orb pickup with grant your Strand weapons Unravelling Rounds, which again, you do not need to even be running the Strand subclass to activate. So in addition to great boss DPS, this season at least it also makes Scatter Signal a good mob-clearer as well. Another perk, Dragon’s Bite, could let the fusion suspend enemies on shield break as well.
While this is the definition of power creep, a best-in-slot fusion being replaced by a different best-in-slot fusion literally a season later, you…should obviously still get it. It’s easily the best legendary weapon of the season and a must-have for all sorts of activities. Get those red borders, craft it, and don’t look back.
