Due to timegating of certain weapons in Destiny 2’s Into the Light, I am holding back on going too crazy with grinding until more have been released. Even though Bungie reduced the timegating, there is still a cadence calendar of when the other weapons will release over the next few weeks.
Right now, the following weapons are live and able to be grinded for, both in terms of completing an Arcite quest for them, and getting them from chests and drops, including the shiny versions:
- Edge Transit (Heavy Grenade Launcher)
- Recluse (Submachine Gun)
- Falling Guillotine (Sword)
- Elsie’s Rifle (Pulse Rifle)
- Hung Jury (Scout Rifle)
- Succession (Sniper Rifle)
And here is the schedule for the rest of the weapons, where two will be added a week for three weeks. Next week has two extremely coveted reprisals:
- April 16 – The Mountaintop (Special Grenade Launcher), Midnight Coup (Hand Cannon)
- April 23 – Hammerhead (Machine Gun), Forbearance (Special Grenade Launcher)
- April 30 – Blast Furnace (Pulse Rifle), Luna’s Howl (Hand Cannon)
The main complaint about timegating is the existence of those limited edition “shiny” versions of these weapons which have a unique shader and four perk options that will later be enhancable. These are only available ahead of The Final Shape even if Onslaught itself is sticking around, so for something like Blast Furnace or Luna’s Howl, you’ll have just a month to try to get good shiny versions of those.
Yes, you can earn one copy of each shiny weapon by doing an Arcite quest, but that’s a roll with zero ability to change barrels, magazines and it only has two perks, not four. None of these fixed roll ones I’ve gotten have been especially good, and they’re actually outclassed by the normal versions because at least there you can change barrels and magazines. It’s a weird decision. Drop rates for shinies appear to be pretty low, so it will take a lot of grinding to not only get them all, but get ones with perk options you want. I’ve gotten two so far which are pretty good, but both have been outclassed by normal drops I’ve gotten. I guess getting a shiny version isn’t super important, but it’s something everyone wants to get and the time limit is annoying. I do wonder if they may reverse that decision and allow shiny farming indefinitely. But no word on that yet.
So, limit your grinding a bit here so you don’t burn out. That’s my advice anyway, and what I’ll be doing before next week when I will go hard for both Mountaintop and Midnight Coup.
