I’ll be honest I have essentially nothing to talk about with Destiny 2 right now, given that we are just doing weekly “wish” quests for scattered rewards, and it’s going to be a bit until Guardian Games and the promised “Into the Light” content.
But I did log on recently for one very specific reason, redeeming an emblem code for the game that I would argue is probably one of its best giveaways in the history of emblem giveaways. And there have been a lot of these.
I’m not sure if this was originally meant to be something tied to the season, given its focus on Riven. Here is the code: THR-33A-YKC, and this is the link where you redeem it. Then, it will show up in your collections where it can be put into your inventory and used on your character.
So, cool emblem. Really beautiful. Surely we’re going to see a bunch more from this talented artist, right? Nope, it was in fact made by John Zelman, who was caught up in Bungie’s recent round of layoffs, which is incredibly unfortunate. Zelman has done a number of excellent emblems and other artwork within Destiny, and Bungie is worse off without him. As they are with many of the people they fired.
As for what we’re sitting around and waiting for in Destiny now, it’s a little hard to believe that we are still a full four months out from The Final Shape, which will launch on June 2, delayed from February 27, which would have been just two weeks from now. The “Into the Light” content, whatever it may be, will not arrive until April, and will run for two weeks through May to bump directly into the launch of The Final Shape. It’s supposed to be something not just for veterans, but to allow new players to jump in and “prepare” for The Final Shape in some capacity.
It seems more than a little tough to onboard people that late, but other games have done it. We don’t know what this content is, but it will not be as extensive as the 30th Anniversary mid-season content from Season of the Lost, but it will certainly be a lot more substantive than the weekly checklist “wishes” we are seeing here. But with next to no information about activities, rewards, story, anything, we’re left to wonder for a while yet. And it’s still even two months until that content starts, so it’s going to be a while. So this is why I’m writing about free emblem codes and new playercount lows.
