Don’t Forget The One Rule Of Destiny 2’s Dawning Event Today

Destiny 2 will launch its Dawning event today for the millionth year in a row, its quasi-Christmas celebration where players can earn new weapons through baking cookies to deliver to all the good boys and girls and giant wish dragons of the land.

However, I am publishing this PSA to remind everyone of something that you need to be doing every single year if you want to maximize your cookie baking and present getting. That is the reminder that you need to equip this ship, the Starfarer 7M, for the duration of the event.

If you know, you know, if you don’t, listen up. The Starfarer 7M was a ship you could earn and upgrade all the way back in season 12, Season of the Hunt during Beyond Light launch, which you can find in “Equipment” collections to reclaim if you got it back then. A final upgrade was the ability to earn Dawning Spirit whenever a cookie ingredient dropped, usually from whatever type of kill you’re getting on whatever type of enemy. Normally Dawning Spirit comes from event completions or bounties, but using the ship means you’ll get a ton passively doing whatever you want.

This used to be a big FOMO thing, as if you were not around during that specific Dawning during that specific season, you wouldn’t have the ship. But as of last year, Eva Levante now has the ship in her inventory so everyone can get it and use it.

I do think that three years later, it might be nice to, I don’t know, change this system a bit so everyone does not have to use the same ship for three weeks every single year. If they’re not going to just make it a native ability for the event, which it might as well be, at least allow other Dawning ships, the ones sold for Silver or earned with Bright Dust, able to have that same capability. Or have us grind out a new ship.

As for the rest of the event, what players will be seeking out this time is a new glaive, the second heavy-hitting Aggressive Glaive in the game. And new perks like Deconstruct, Attrition Orbs, Cold Steel and Beacon Rounds are being put on the collection of old Dawning weapons which will still drop. It’s a rare occasion that holiday weapons are worth getting, but who knows, maybe this glaive is.

In addition to that, Destiny 2 is continuing a new tradition that has players earning a specific memento for the event. We just got the black leather Festival of the Lost memento, and now we have an animated ice one for The Dawning. I actually think this is a great idea to get players to play more than they would otherwise, as I sure farmed FotL for that black one multiple times over. This one looks great too.

Anyway, yeah, put the ship on, until some better system is made. See you out there.
