One of the most exciting things about Destiny 2 launching new seasons is that each of them typically comes with a slew of changes to the sandbox that impact the meta and reshape it, such as alterations to how abilities, Exotics, and weapons work. Weapons often receive some of the biggest changes overall that range from bumps to their stats to reworks of their archetypes, affecting the gunplay of both PvE and PvP game modes. Another type of items that gets massive changes is Exotic armor, although this is not guaranteed to happen every season. Season of the Wish overhauled 20 Exotics total, with most of them being buffed and some being nerfed, and as such, there are several “winners” for each class.
Although Season of the Wish didn’t add new Exotic armor in Destiny 2, which admittedly comes at a bad time considering the low morale of the community and the fact that Season 23 is going to be the longest ever, the reworks are nice to have. Exotic reworks are a good way to experiment with old tools and new buildcrafting options, but in a new light, at times making those armor pieces the best they’ve ever been.
Some of Destiny 2’s Most Popular Armor Sets Are Coming Back, But There’s a Catch
Destiny 2’s Season of the Wish is marking the return of multiple beloved armor sets, but for some of them there’s a big catch.
Best Reworked Titan Exotics in Destiny 2’s Season of the Wish
Severance Enclosure
Severance Enclosure may not have seen a lot of use over the years because of the many good options Titan builds in Destiny 2 typically resorted to, such as Synthoceps for melee-based builds. However, with ability uptime reduced across the board, Severance Enclosure is now a great way to clear adds and retain survivability on subclasses like Solar, Void, and Strand – especially with Banner of War proccing on finishers too.
Peregrine Greaves
One of the most dangerous bits of high endgame content in Destiny 2 is rooms filled with Champions and other powerful enemies, but the new Peregrine Greaves make short work of them most of the time. This Exotic now lets players deal incredible amounts of damage with their airborne shoulder charges, and on top of that, it completely refunds melee energy on hit against mini-bosses, Tormentors, and Champions, even if the attack doesn’t kill.
Best Reworked Hunter Exotics in Destiny 2’s Season of the Wish
Ophidia Spathe
Once just a niche Exotic for Trick Knife builds, Ophidia Spathe is now a really good Hunter Exotic in Destiny 2. It not only provides two melee charges, but it also gives players the ability to get both back with a single Gambler’s Dodge, and now kills with thrown knives provide Hunters with a damage bonus that is refreshed with every Dodge.
Celestial Nighthawk
Prior to Season of the Wish, Destiny 2 players nuked bosses with forgotten Exotics like Celestial Nighthawk from time to time, but now, this is likely to become the top of the meta. With a 25% damage buff to Golden Gun as well as precision kills providing Super energy, Solar Hunter builds are now capable of getting their Super very fast and destroy big enemies with it too.
Best Reworked Warlock Exotics in Destiny 2’s Season of the Wish
Apotheosis Veil
After the Starfire Protocol nerf in Destiny 2, players were in need of new meta Exotics for Warlocks, and the newly overhauled Apotheosis Veil delivers. What this helmet does is give users a short period of time of strongly improved grenade and melee energy regeneration after casting a Super, making it incredibly strong for DPS phases in Destiny 2 – especially on Well Warlocks and Strand Warlocks.
Karnstein Armlets
Another forgotten Destiny 2 Exotic crawling back into the limelight, Karnstein Armlets now provide Warlocks with both Cure and Restoration on melee kills or finishers, making them great for survivability. Maybe not the top pick for endgame content, but for solo runs, Karnstein Armlets are now amazing on most builds.
