Trials of Osiris is the competitive PvP-mode in Destiny 2 available to play only over the weekends, starting from the daily reset on Fridays. The mode pits two teams of three in an elimination-style mode where the first team to win five rounds wins the whole match. Narratively, it is an extension of Lord Shaxx’s Crucible originally overseen by the Followers of Osiris in the first Destiny and at the start of Destiny 2. However, it has since come under the watch of Osiris’ closest confidant and beloved partner, Saint-14.
Bungie gave players a new look at the armor sets coming to Trials in Destiny 2 Season 17 in the latest This Week at Bungie, though the first weekend of Trials in the new season won’t begin until June 10. As with previous sets, the Egyptian aesthetic is front-and-center as the armor turns a player’s guardian into an armored mummy warrior. The reason for this is the visible wrappings, akin to mummy wraps, under the vibrant gray and gold armor-clad guardians. Bungie gives the sets a little extra flair with falcon feathers present in the titan and hunter arms and warlock helmet.
On top of the armor, a new ghost shell and sparrow were shown off in the post, both falling in line with the visual design of the new Trials gear. Bungie did not provide a name for the ghost shell, but the new sparrow is named the Falcon’s Chase, and it certainly lives up to the name.
The studio also managed to sneak in a look at two of the new weapons coming to Trials when it kicks off in a few weeks. It appears the mode will be getting a new sidearm and fusion rifle to fill out the arsenal, though they will have big boots to fill, considering the weapons going away. Season 17 will see The Messenger pulse rifle and Shayura’s Wrath SMG removed from the Trials loot pool, both of which are considered by many in the Destiny 2 community to be near the top of their respective pulse and SMG archetypes between their generally good stat rolls and perk pools allowing for multiple god rolls.
Destiny 2 is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
