Destiny 2 fans are worried that Bungie’s aggressive microtransaction strategy will continue into the game’s future with the addition of new The Witcher cosmetics. These concerns come to the forefront as the game’s Season of the Wish update approaches, releasing on November 28 in conjunction with The Witcher crossover.

In previous instances, like Destiny 2’s Assassin’s Creed crossover, players had to spend 2,000 silver ($20) for one of the three armor sets that were released. Although this event took place almost a year ago, this pricey trend continued with recent events, where players were often charged $15-$20 for a single cosmetic item.

Destiny 2‘s community has taken to social media to voice its concerns, with one tweet going particularly viral. Amassing over 500k views, Twitter user JpDeathBlade commented that the complete edition of The Witcher 3, which includes the base game plus all DLC, can currently be bought for only $12.49 on Steam. This is compared to the likely cost of a single Witcher cosmetic come November 28, which will be priced in the $15-$20 range if Bungie follows the trend of its previous crossovers.

While it’s not the fairest comparison, seeing that The Witcher 3 was released over seven years ago and Steam is in the midst of a Black Friday sale, it does highlight the high pricing of Destiny 2’s cosmetic items. However, Bungie has maintained these prices for years, so the model clearly works for the game developer, suggesting that enough users are forking over cash for new cosmetics. Similarly, Destiny 2’s Fortnite crossover charged $15 for each of its three bundles, with each bundle containing one armor piece. But, it’s important to note that Bungie has not yet revealed its prices for the coming crossover, so it’s still possible that fans could see a revision to this strategy.
