There has been a common complaint about Destiny 2 that it is extremely hard to get new players into the game and tell them which bundles to buy and where to start. And while far from perfect, the current Humble Bundle featuring Destiny 2 is easily the best, most comprehensive, cheapest way you can do this.
Right now, you can get:
- The Forsaken Pack
- Shadowkeep
- Beyond Light
- The 30th Anniversary Pack
- The Witch Queen
- Lightfall
For $40. That is every major expansion that still exists in the game plus the remnants of Forsaken which features a dungeon, raid and a bunch of exotics.
It is far and away the best deal you are going to see for all of these put together. I’m not sure anything is even close, as even with past expansion bundles, the most recent expansion, Lightfall, is almost never included.
It is, however, a bit of a misnomer that this is “the story so far” as Bungie is advertising, as a way to catch up with The Final Shape. The base Red War campaign has been deleted from the game and is never coming back. First DLC expansions Curse of Osiris and Warmind are gone. Same with the story campaign of Forsaken. All the connective tissues of two dozen seasons between expansions are not there, including loads of key story moments. And the one icing bit missing is the Witch Queen dungeon pack, which does not appear to be included. It’s another example of even if you can get “everything” in Destiny 2 it’s…never going to be everything, as half the game is gone and never coming back.
Still, I have to recommend this. If you ever were thinking about trying the game, this is a prime, very cheap place to jump in. If you bought all this stuff at launch you would have spent literally hundreds of dollars, now it’s $40. You can’t beat that.
This is all part of a run-up to the launch of The Final Shape, which Destiny makes no bones about promoting here. The last expansions of the Light and Dark Saga is enormously important to Bungie, as if they cannot get the playercount high for that, that will be a big issue for the studio. Lightfall set playercount records at launch just last year, so it’s certainly possible, but it’s been a dispiriting year for both the community and Bungie itself after mass layoffs.
So, yeah, I’d get it. There’s a ton of content in there for $40. I may start with Witch Queen, the best expansion in many ways, rather than Shadowkeep, the “first” expansion here, but the worst one, by far.
