We love it when fresh PS Plus games land on our PS5 dashboard, especially when they’re totally free to claim and keep. Headlining this month’s PlayStation Plus free games lineup is the highly maligned Immortals of Aveum. Not to worry, though, as you’ve got Minecraft Legends and Skul: The Hero Slayer as back up.
Despite getting less than average reviews upon launch, Immortals of Aveum is still putting up a fight. One of the few new PS5 games to release under the EA Originals banner, it has been poised for a PS Plus debut since November last year, following comments from Ascendant CEO Bret Robbins. Now the magical fantasy FPS game will be available to claim from Tuesday, April 2, March 2024 for players across all tiers of PS Plus. While we weren’t complete enamored with it in our Immortals of Aveum review, we did note that “Ascendant Studios has crafted a vast world” packed full of deep lore to sink your teeth into.
There’s a chance that it could win PS5 owners over, and who knows, maybe it won’t be the last we’ve heard from this universe. Nevertheless, there are two other free PS Plus games for you to claim: Minecraft Legends and Skul: The Hero Slayer. Despite the name, Minecraft Legends isn’t exactly like the sandbox RPG game you’ve come to know and love, though. This real-time action-adventure is all about resource management, defending your precious base from piglins, and savoring the rewards.
You don’t have to be on the offensive all the time, though. Taking the fight to other settlements is where a lot of the fun comes from, and there’s nothing quite like ransacking another village for all their loot. Who knew Minecraft could be so evil? You can do it with your friends, too, thanks to Minecraft Legends crossplay.
On the tougher end of the scale, Skul: The Hero Slayer might just be one of the best roguelike games ever offered up as part of PS Plus. Combining punishing roguelike elements with 2D platforming and constantly changing levels, there’s plenty to love about this once-hidden gem.
These games will be available to claim from April 2 onwards, meaning you’ve only got a few days to grab March’s lineup of F1 23, Sifu, Hello Neighbor 2, and Destiny 2’s The Witch Queen expansion and keep them locked in your library.
In related gaming news, you can play the glossy PS5 port of Red Dead Redemption right now for just $6 with this sneaky workaround, and there’s a fresh Easter event to reap free skins from in The Finals.
