Ever since Bungie announced that Destiny 2 would be delaying The Final Shape, thus making Season of the Wish six months long, they have mentioned something called “Wishes” which were going to be something to fill the gap. Well, part of the gap, with something called “Into the Light” coming later.
Now, we know what Wishes are, and from what I can tell, this may have always been the plan for the season, given that they last for six weeks and The Final Shape was supposed to be a month away. So maybe they just rearranged or extended it a little. But unlike Season of the Wish, Wishes are free for all players to participate in.
So, what are they? Bungie says that every week you can complete a “high risk” objective in order to secure a token. The activities mentioned are a dungeon or Legend Lost Sector, though there are likely a few more past that. But ones that F2P players can do as well.
Then, you can spend that token on one of three different categories of items each week. Those are:
Last Wish Red Borders – You can pick a red border Last Wish raid weapon of your choice for a token, even if you’ve never played the raid. The obvious pick is the ultra-meta Apex Predator Rocket Launcher, but the rest include:
Chattering Bone (Pulse Rifle), Age-Old Bond (Auto Rifle), Nation of Beasts (Hand Cannon), Tyranny of Heaven (Bow), Transfiguration (Scout Rifle), The Supremacy (Sniper Rifle), Techeun Force (Fusion Rifle).
It’s actually one of the better pools of raid weapons, all things considered, so this is a great boon for non-hardcore players who don’t have all these crafted already. Though you’d need five full weeks to craft just one of them.
Class Exotics – Here you can pick an exotic of your choice if you’re missing something from anything in the past year. And yes, this should mean even if you don’t own Lightfall or any of its seasons. That will be kind of a big deal for some players. The catch, however, is that many of these exotics boost Strand or Stasis skills, and you will have to own Lightfall and Beyond Light respectively to use those subclasses. The choices are:
- Hunter: Speedloader Slacks (Legs), Cyrtarachne’s Façade (Helmet), Triton Vice (Arms), Mothkeeper’s Wraps (Arms)
- Titan: Abeyant Leap (Legs), Arbor Warden (Chest), Pyrogale Gauntlets (Arms)
- Warlock: Ballidorse Wrathweavers (Arms), Swarmers (Legs), Cenotaph Mask (Head), Briarbinds (Arms)
Materials – This is the last category, where I guess if you have everything else, you can just get some currency or some cosmetics.
They are bringing back the Lost and Dawning mementos for this, the black leather and ice consumable weapon shaders, where you can get one per week through this. Or you can pick two Ascendant Shards or two Alloy. Or one exotic cipher to spend.
All of this seems…fine? I mean I wasn’t really expecting more than this. It’s definitely skewed toward being generous to free-to-play or casual players with free raid weapons or exotics you no longer have to pay for, so that’s cool. I am curious to see the full list of “high risk objectives” to be sure, but right off the bat, Legend Lost Sectors, depending on the Lost Sector, seems like the easiest one you’ll probably have to choose from.
